From the day you plan to the moment you find your coach on the platform.
How to get a confirmed ticket
The rules that decide whether your waitlist clears. Rules change often, so check IRCTC before you rely on them.
When booking opens
- General quota: 60 days before the journey (not counting the journey date), from 8:00 AM.
- Tatkal (AC classes): one day before the journey, from 10:00 AM.
- Tatkal (Sleeper and non-AC): one day before the journey, from 11:00 AM.
- Online Tatkal booking needs an Aadhaar-verified IRCTC account.
Waitlist types, best to worst
- RAC
- You can board and share a side berth. Often upgrades to a full berth.
- GNWL
- General waitlist from the train’s start. Clears most often.
- RLWL
- Remote location waitlist for an intermediate station. Clears less often.
- PQWL
- Pooled quota for short trips. Clears rarely.
- TQWL
- Tatkal waitlist. Lowest priority when the chart is made.
Tips that improve your chances
- Book from the train’s starting station if you can. You get GNWL instead of RLWL or PQWL.
- Check nearby dates. A day earlier or later is often available.
- Compare classes. 3E and 2A sometimes have seats when 3A is full.
- Opt in to Vikalp when booking a waitlisted ticket so you can be moved to another train.
- A waitlisted e-ticket that stays waitlisted after the chart is cancelled automatically and refunded.
Quotas explained
- GN
- General, open to everyone.
- TQ
- Tatkal, opens a day before, higher fare.
- PT
- Premium Tatkal, dynamic fare.
- LD
- Ladies, for women travelling alone or with a child.
- SS
- Lower berths for senior citizens, women aged 45 and over, and pregnant women.
Train FAQ
How do I check if my waitlisted ticket will be confirmed?
Open the PNR status tab and enter your 10-digit PNR. You will see each passenger's current status and a confirmation chance. For a ticket you have not booked yet, search your train and tap a class to see the chance before you book.
How accurate is the confirmation chance?
It is an estimate. For a booked PNR we show the railway data service's forecast when it has one. Otherwise our own model looks at your waitlist position, how fast the waitlist is clearing, seats on nearby dates, the class and quota, the season and the days left.
When does train booking open?
General quota booking opens 60 days before the journey (not counting the journey date) at 8:00 AM. Tatkal opens one day before at 10:00 AM for AC classes and 11:00 AM for Sleeper. Use the Booking dates tab to get a calendar reminder.
What do GNWL, RLWL, PQWL and TQWL mean?
They are waitlist types. GNWL is the general waitlist and clears most often. RLWL is for intermediate stations, PQWL is a pooled quota for short trips, and TQWL is the Tatkal waitlist, which clears least often.
What is a break journey and when should I use it?
If a direct train has no seats, the Break journey tab splits the trip at a junction on two trains, often in different classes, and shows the chance of a confirmed seat on each part. Leave enough time between the trains in case the first one runs late.
Can I book tickets on this site?
No. This site helps you plan and check. Train tickets are booked on IRCTC or through an authorised agent. Use the Book on IRCTC button after you pick a train and class.
Is my PNR stored anywhere?
Your PNR is sent only to the railway data service to fetch its status. If you choose Save, it is kept in your own browser on this device. You can remove it at any time.
Book flights smarter
How to find the right flight at the right price, and what to check before you pay.
When to book
- Domestic fares are usually lowest 3 to 8 weeks before travel; the last 7 days are the most expensive.
- For Diwali, Christmas and summer holidays, book 2 to 3 months ahead.
- International fares from India are often lowest 6 to 12 weeks ahead.
- Use "When to fly and when to book" on your search: it shows how fares on your route change by days ahead.
Cheaper days and times
- The cheapest day of the week depends on the route; the weekday chart on your search shows it.
- Early morning and late night flights are often cheaper.
- Tap the dates around your day in the strip to compare in one click.
- A connection through a hub can save money on some routes; the layover section checks this for you.
Baggage and extras
- The cheapest fares often include only a 7 kg cabin bag.
- Add check-in baggage, seats and meals while booking; they cost more at the airport.
- Web check-in usually opens 48 hours before departure and closes 60 minutes before.
At the airport
- Reach 2 hours early for domestic flights and 3 hours for international ones.
- Use DigiYatra at major Indian airports for faster entry.
- Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months on international trips; check visa and transit rules early.
Flights FAQ
Where do the fares come from?
From Aviasales (Travelpayouts): fares other travellers found in the last few days. They are real but cached, so "View deal" opens the live price before you book.
Why did the price change when I opened the deal?
Seats at the lowest fare sell out and prices update during the day. The live price on the booking page is the final one.
Is a return ticket cheaper than two one-way tickets?
Sometimes. We show the cheapest one-way fare each way and the total. Use "See return fares" to check a single return ticket too.
Are layovers on separate tickets safe?
They can save money, but the airline does not have to rebook you if the first flight is late. Leave 3 hours or more, allow time to collect and re-check bags, and check transit visa rules abroad.
What is the "When to book" analysis based on?
Months of the cheapest fare for each day on your route, plus recent price sightings. It is a guide based on real fares, not a promise.
Can I cancel a cheap fare?
Most low fares charge a cancellation fee; check the fare rules before you pay. Airport taxes and fees are usually refundable even on non-refundable fares.
Travel by bus with confidence
Pick a good operator, the right seat and a safe boarding point.
Choosing an operator
- Prefer operators rated 4 or more by many travellers.
- Live tracking and many boarding points make the trip easier.
- Government (RTC) buses are often cheaper with fixed fares.
Sleeper or seater
- On trips over 7 hours, an overnight sleeper saves a hotel night.
- Lower berths are easier; upper berths are cheaper.
- Women travelling alone can choose seats marked for women.
Price and timing
- Friday to Sunday buses fill up and cost more; book a few days ahead.
- Use the date strip on your search to find a cheaper day.
- The same bus can have different fares for window, aisle and berth seats.
Before you board
- Check the boarding point and its time; city pickups can be far from the centre.
- Read the cancellation rule on the card; refunds fall as departure gets closer.
- Share your live location with someone at home.

Are government buses included?
Yes, when they are sold on redBus, and we show them at the top. We also link to state bus corporation websites.
Why is the fare different on redBus?

Can I cancel a bus ticket?
Each operator sets its own rule, shown on the card, for example "10% fee if cancelled 24h+ before".

Price and taxes

- Ask about early check-in or late check-out before you arrive.
- Confirm the room for the number of guests; extra beds cost more.
Hotels FAQ
Where do the hotels come from?
From Google Maps: hotels near the place you searched, with Google ratings, nightly prices and booking-site offers.
Why is the price for a different date?
Google shows its nightly rate for its default dates. Tap "Price for your dates" to see the price for your exact stay.
How is "Best match" decided?
We combine the guest rating, how close the hotel is to your place, its price, whether rooms are on offer, and how easy it is to reach the station, the airport and the sights.
What does "No price" mean?
Google had no rate for that hotel. It may be full or not sell rooms online; check your dates on the booking site.
Do you take bookings?
